Spring Flooding
Is everyone ready for some spring flooding issues this year? Its looking like it might be pretty bad (not so much in Mankato though because of the wall). I wouldn't be surprised to see at least the north bound lane of 169 between Mankato and St Peter closed again this year and I'm sure parts of Sibley Park will go under as well. Should be interesting...

RE: Spring Flooding
The dreadful Minnesota Floods - I remember sandbagging when I was in college between 1960-1964 - but can't remember the year of the flood - maybe 1961. I was standing on the old bridge watching the boats take sandbags out to the well area as I recall - bridge was vibrating to much for me and I ran off thinking this could go. Was surprised to hear about floods between St Peter and Mankato on 169. I thought all of the highway stopped that. What are they talking about.

RE: Spring Flooding
I'm pretty sure 169 has been closed before due to flooding but maybe I'm mistaken (I thought it closed when we had Spring flooding within the last 10 years)? I don't travel between Mankato and St Peter to often and if I do, I usually take Highway 22. Anyone know forsure?

RE: Spring Flooding
There are now numerous flood watches and warnings up for local area counties. They are expecting the Minnesota River to crest at or above flood stage in several local areas in the next couple of weeks...
Here is a map of the upper Midwest which shows the current thinking as far as percentage chances of at least 'minor flooding' from February 23 - May 24.

RE: Spring Flooding
Numerous area roads are now closed...Highway 22 by St Peter looks like its about to be shut down in the next day or so. Also, the water by the north bound lane of 169 between Mankato and St Peter is almost right up to the road. Hopefully the river will 'crest' though in the next couple of days and start going back down...
