MN Pheasants Fund Raiser tonight 9/10

The 2nd Annual MN Pheasants Inc and Lake Crystal Ducks Unlimited Fall Hunting Kickoff is tonight from 5 to 9pm at the Lake Crystal American Legion. Cost is $10 at the door and chidren 12 and under are only $5. This includes adminssion and all you can eat pulled pork sandwiches, beans and chips.

We will have various raffles all night long. Need only be present to win the quick blue light raffles but the 3 main raffles you dont need to be there for. We will have an Upland Raffle, a Waterfowl Raffle, and a Main Raffle with some cash & electronics prizes on it. The blue light raffles will vary but will contain some meat raffles and possibly some other prizes as well.

Come out and support 2 organizations in Blue Earth County working towards a similar goal!

Severe Weather Monday (9-6-10) and Friday (9-10-10)

*Edit* - I have changed things to reflect the now likely scenario that the severe weather event will happen locally on Friday instead of Thursday.

Since the forecast models are in pretty good agreement, I figured I'd make a post about the severe weather that looks to be heading our way for next week. There are 2 'systems' expected to move through - each of which will likely produce severe weather if model trends continue.

System 1 (Monday 9-6-10):
A low pressure system is expected to move towards our area from the southwest sometime late Sunday into Monday as well as an associated warm front and cold front. The big question right now with this system is if the cap will be breakable (just to review a cap is a layer of warm air in the upper atmosphere that stops thunderstorms from developing). If it is breakable, thunderstorms will likely develop with all modes of severe weather anticipated (large hail, damaging winds and probably a few tornadoes). Also, it is possible our area will see some late night severe storms Sunday night as well as the system moves into our area.

System 2 (Thursday 9-9-10):
The next system looks to move into our area probably on Thursday. Of the 2 systems, this one appears to be much stronger. In fact, if model trends continue on this system, we may be looking at another tornado outbreak similar to June 17th somewhere in the northern plains (right now Minnesota looks to be in the bulls eye for this outbreak) . Of course we are a week away yet so a lot of things could change. I figured I'd give you guys a heads up though as the weather is starting to cool and feel more 'Fall like' so people tend to let down their guards. However, that second system looks like it may be a very dangerous one next week so I will keep an eye on it and try to keep you guys informed.

Severe weather looks pretty likely for tomorrow across southern Minnesota and Iowa. Damaging wind and hail will be the primary threats with these storms. I should mention there is also a chance of a severe storm locally sometime well after midnight tonight as well but Tuesday will be the main day for severe weather locally.

We are approaching the end of severe weather season. September is usually a transition month were the temps really start to drop off. However, we can still have severe weather on occasion but the likelihood will steadily decrease from here on out.
